I agree with catymag. Based on the timeline of the PGFT 2.2.5.4 release date and the introduction date of the new protection scheme (inside the newr GPS models) I can't believe PGFT it will unlock maps for use on the newer models. That is why I originally asked the question. I believe folks promoting the use of the PGFT kit don't fully understand the issue. Sure, PGFT works fine (and always has) with maps targeted for the older GPS models. Offline Joined: Fri May 21, 2010 2:51 am Posts: 53 Has thanked: 0 time Been thanked: times.
So if you have more than one Nuvi to update with maps, apparently you must totally purge all downloaded map files for the 1st unit before you can update the 2nd, 3rd, etc. So try this if you have problems with multiple unit updates (note: you must still have a update subscription for each unit, which I did) Should not be a huge fix for Garmin, but apparently the latest updaters need a patch for anyone with more than one Nuvi who has stored a map to save download time to correctly build the map for subsequent units from the same map download files stored on a PC (especially if you are not comfortable poking around in your PC's hidden system files areas). Doing this from memory (sorry, about 15 minutes ago I updated my families last unit and purged the temporary files when I was done so I would not have to think about it next time). Note: I'm using XP, so Win7 or Vista will be different (and I don't have either on any pc's) You need to make hidden folders visible first. By default they are not viewable in windows explorer.
Went to do the updates on the 2455LM and same thing as the 50LM (no map to unlock). Daughter was leaving in 2 hours to go back to college (several hours away), so I reloaded the factory maps from the 2455 which I had backed up. At lease she had a working unit and I will call CS next time she is home during Garmin business hours.
Normally I always provide unlocked maps since it’s easier to work with them, create new compilations, upload to GPS, etc, but sometimes either because we don’t find an unlocked map or because we want the very latest versions of maps we’re forced to install a blocked map. How can use installed locked maps? By being blocked leaves us with hands tied because we can hardly do anything with them. At the beginning I unlocked some maps in MapSource by pure filly, now the issue has fallen back into my hands and I decided to create this post. I will assume already you’ve installed the locked maps or go after some, I must warn you don’t download installers from anywhere because can place in the same installation “another things”, do it in a site or uploader trusted. • Download PGFT and run them as Admin. There’re two executables, one for 32bits and other for 64bits.
Ive got the unlocked img file and not sure where it goes. So my question really is how to i get the city navigator europ NT 2011.10 on to my sd card or the device. Ive tried mapsource but its asking for n unlock code. Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance Use the Mapsource (patched) just google it to transfer your selected map into your sd card. And jet mouse or Fast IMG unlocker but if you want to transfer it in your device, better to delete your previous gmapprom.img.
I deleted all of these. Make sure to empty your recycle bin before starting the update as I found the updater will use the 'deleted' folder from inside the recycle bin if you have not emptied it.

Go to 'my computer' and under 'tools' (top bar), select 'folder options' and then select the 'view' tab. Find 'hidden files and folders' and click the radio button beside 'show hidden files and folders'. Then click 'OK' to exit out of the folder options and back to windows explorer.
So a week later (today), my other daughter wants her 1350 updated (still had 2010 maps on it). Exact same thing. At least she is home from college and I can call Garmin CS tomorrow.

2nd and 3rd, nope - 'no maps to unlock' even though they were physically in the system area of the Nuvi. When I did the 1st Nuvi, I did download the map files to the device and the computer as the file was too big for my 750 and I needed a bigger SD card to get the whole NA map. A few days later I added the card and placed the whole NA map on the card. Apparently for the subsequent updates the software saw there was a map already stored in the temp files area and from then on out the unlock codes did not match. Purged *ALL* downloaded map files from the PC drive and ran the option 2 updater again, and it worked fine. Now have 2013.10 on the 2nd Nuvi.
Wasting a lot of time. Sounds like this issue has existed for years. Garmin needs to do something. Garmin Express is an improvement but not stable. I had to plug in and out the devices several times to make it work. Still long to go for Garmin.
If it worked, your updater should have to re-download the entire map file from the Garmin server, but it will have unlock codes embedded in the new map download that should match your unit now. I have 4 Nuvi's and this is the only way I can get them to update. I guess Garmin will take a look at this in a future update to the updater software.
The map update software is clearly using a stored set of data from my drive as it is not re-downloading the map from the Garmin server. Ok, I found the problem and a solution. Apparently the lifetime updater and the option 2 manual updater from the MyMaps area at Garmin do not fully determine what Garmin device is attached and correct the map to match the encoded unlock keys if you have more than one Nuvi device to update and a map was previously downloaded. Works fine for the 1st device, but apparently the files stored from the first download are also used to build the maps for any additional Nuvi device updates and the unlock codes do not match the other devices (we had 3, all with lifetime maps, one was that way when purchased and the other two had maps purchased later).
Ok i may be doing something wrong here and i dont want to ask the same question however, i have done pretty much everything. Just dont know how to get the map/s on to my nuvi255w with north america maps.
So after all that, here is my question. Where does Garmin store the map update files on a PC when they are downloaded? I think the map it downloaded for my 750 must have embedded code unique to that device and even though the Garmin update software is looking and seeing the map on my drive from the prior download, something is not getting changed when I try to update the other maps. I want to purge all the map files from my hard drive and force a fresh download of a map for the specific Nuvi I'm updating and see if that fixes the issue. I don't recall seeing anything posted about this issue before, but I think the update software may not be fully checking for and replacing any device unique code for additional map updates to additional devices from the same PC (all devices have current lifetime updates in MyMaps and I'm not trying to copy one map manually to another Nuvi - it's all being handled by either the lifetime update software or the option 2 map update package from the garmin site).
Garmin UnLocker Alternative v8.0.1 - () 1. Copy.exe file same directory with image 2. Run 'UNLOCK MAP DIRECTORY.EXE' 3. Hi, Thanks for the Garmin Unlocker Alternative! Since v5.31b,c I can not unlock my maps at all. Version 5.31 is working like it should, but 5.31b, 5.31c and the last 5.4 doesn't work for me! Here is the info log from GmapTool of the GMAPSUPP.IMG from the MAP UnLocked folder.
Updated the firmware out of the box and then did the map to 2013.10. After update I got the dreaded 'no maps to unlock' message and no copyright info for the maps on boot up of the Nuvi. Redid the update several time, using option 2 from myMaps. Checked the unlock text file and the correct code was in there, but it would not unlock.
If you are really desperate & can’t find any other way to unlock GMAPSUPP.IMG (Garmin Map) locked map files, because software like GPSMapEdit can’t seem to be able to deal with locked map files, and its always end up with “ WARNING: The map is locked. (NOTE: such maps are not supported by intention).” Here’s how to unlock GMAPSUPP.IMG (Garmin Map) locked map files: • Download Garmin Unlocker (download link at the end of this post). • Create “MAP Locked” directory, then copy your IMG file into directory. • Write your map details in MapsetHeader.txt and MapName.txt file -MapsetHeader.txt eg.
Exact same thing. At least she is home from college and I can call Garmin CS tomorrow.
We’ll get a warning that there’re blocked maps. • Execute the command Maps; Manage products maps, and see that indeed the state of map is “locked” but we’re interested is the installation location which we’ll take note: is needed. • Go to PGFT and click on Unlock a TDB file, after which we can browse to find the TDB file in the path that we’ve noted before. It was installed for me in ProgramData which is a hidden folder, for which you can disable hiding hidden files/folders or my favorite (+ fast): Type it directly. For which write c: programdata and press [enter], as the rest of subdirectories are not hidden we can browse them normally until the file TDB is found.

It put's the right code in the unlock file, but that code does not match the map file. First Nuvi updated fine.
The updaters apparently see the current map files are already on the PC, but don't change the embedded unlock codes for the subsequent devices when building the map again. It put's the right code in the unlock file, but that code does not match the map file. First Nuvi updated fine.

Thinking something was bad in the unit and it being a Sunday with her leaving back to college in a few hours, I went back to swap the unit out at the store. They were out (one time buy at Sam's Club), so I upgraded to a 2455LM.
From a fresh download everything apparently matched. It worked for me. My location I am handling the same issue on my new 3490 since I have an old 7 series. On my XP, I found my IMG folder in Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Garmin/Core Update Service/MAPxxxx. I've deleted this folder and have to re-download the map.

Also I'm not sure if this issue is common to all versions of windows, or just XP with SP3, or just my machine. From what I can tell, when it used the old map (which was the current map data just downloaded for a different Nuvi), the encrypted unlock code was not updated or not properly updated to match the 2nd or 3rd units. It was putting the correct unlock code in the unlock file on the unit, but that code did not match the map file code until I forced it to use a fresh map download instead of a cached copy.

Quick history. We have 3 Nuvi's, and all have lifetime updates for the maps. When 2013.10 came out, I updated my 750 with no problems (had to put it on the SD card to get all of the NA updated on there though, but that was expected). Saved the map to my HD also. Daughter needed a Nuvi for her new car, so I bought a 50LM.

Abt 1.7GB to have space for EU nt. By the way NT EU 2011.30 is the latest.(backup before deleting). Hello people. Ok,I have downloaded map update for my Garmin Nuvi 200.It is City Navigator North America NT 2011.20 map ID 2265 in a gmapsupp.img file. My Garmin has City Navigator North America NT 2009 right now. Wanting to know what I have to do to transfer these new maps to my Garmin. Would I simply open the image file & transfer to my device of would I need an installer??
It’s a Garmin’s snare to force us use the new maps with digital signature.
↓ • Autor de la entrada I don’t understand what you mean. Where’s the map? On Mapsource, or GPS? The post is about locked installed maps on computer You must to have in mind that although you’ve an unlocked map installed on your computer (Mapsource/Basecamp/Mapinstall) at time to transfer it (completely or a part of it) to the GPS (or mem.card) is transferred BLOCKED, so it must be unlocked. Once is done, no more problems.

• PGFT load the data of map, with the name, FID, PID, etc, and click on Unlock selected TDB to unlock it. • Close all: BaseCamp and PGFT. • Open BaseCamp to open the map already unlocked. If we are retailers can see that don’t jump the warning of “locked map” that can confirm executing the command “Map; Manage map products”.
Now click on your 'C:' drive in windows explorer, then double click on 'documents and settings' and then the current user folder (this folder name depends on how you set your windows up and how many user there are on that particular machine). NOTE*** do NOT use 'My Documents' as that is actually a sub-folder of where you want to be. Once you open that user's folder up, you should see a 'local settings' folder that is slightly dimmer than the other folders (indicates it is normally hidden from view). Open the 'local settings' and then the 'TEMP' folder and you will find the IMG and some other folders related to the Garmin software in there. I deleted all of these. Make sure to empty your recycle bin before starting the update as I found the updater will use the 'deleted' folder from inside the recycle bin if you have not emptied it.
