Hello everyone. I recently got an old AEA PK-232MBX at a local ham auction for about $6. It has the most recent firmware on it though I have not gotten all the cables yet to hook it up to a pc and my radio. Anyhow, I know I can interface with it with a terminal program which is no problem. What I'm wondering is if anyone came up with a replacement for the PC-Pakratt II software that originally came with it. From what I can see you can do FAX and Navtex with the device but you need the software. I may be wrong as I haven't gotten the cables yet to hook it up (waiting until after the new year) to play with it yet.
You should see a line of garbled text displayed across the terminal window. Press the '*' key 'once' and you should see the PK232MBX default banner. Unless you have upgraded the ROM through Timewave, the version should be 'version 7' which will be displayed on the bottom line of the default banner. Make note of the baud rate, bits, and stop bits, the terminal program you are using, such as Windows Hyperterm, then replace the jumper on the bottom of the PK232 through the small hole. The PK232 will retain the RS-232 setting and when turned on the next time, will communicate using that baud rate, bits, and stop bit settings.
The PK232MBX is viewed by the computer as a 'Modem' and requires a simple serial 'modem cable'. Do NOT use a NULL MODEM cable! MSYS will not allow you to operate CW using the PK232MBX. MSYS is designed for Packet.

I was loading up a new computer for packet and then poof. I could use Windows Hyperterminal but prefer the PAKratt for the PK-900. I had S/N 10373 on 3.5' diskette media. Does anybody still use this version? Is there a chance somebody could send it to me by snail or a zipped e-mail attachment?
I would like to download a simple and easy to use freeware program if possible. If you opt for this alternative, make sure to print all the instructions and follow them carefully. Also, make sure you download just the PACKET ENGINE, and the RTTY ENGINE form those two respective programs.

IF your PK-232 has the PSK upgrade (equivalent to buying a seperate RigBlaster) --- until they natively support the PK-232. There is a DOS version call 'Paket' that works well with the PK232MBX. Some time ago, I heard about the possibility of working PACKET 'directly' from your computer without the need of the PK-232. I was a little skeptical but I was willing to give it a try. Steve, HAMSCOPE, is a free program you can download to work a host of different modes, to include PACKET, RTTY, CW, and some other free programs. In addition, you can download into HAMSCOPE, a free Log program which you can use as you work the contact station. This program is very manageable and easy to use, as well as reliable. The key to the whole thing is to make sure you create a separate folder where to download all those programs.
